Jim is probably sleeping. He’s old AF. And old people sleep.

The sun rose at 4:45am and set a mere 30 mins ago at 11:30pm where I live. I think I get about an hour and a half of darkness right now. Or should I say, “darkness”.

I find that so interesting. So different. Also is it true the Alaskan government gives you like $1500 a month for free?

        HAHAHAHAHA!!!! No.

But the short version is: in the early 80s the Alaska government (and the people of Alaska) began to invest the revenues made from the oil industry in stocks. Qualified residents receive a portion of the DIVIDEND earned by those profits. It is a small portion. Once a year, those qualified residents receive a check for a varying amount, depending on the profits from the past three years. In the beginning I want to say it was like $400. This year it is estimated to be around $3,600 I believe. However, the governor the last three years made an executive order that basically stole (he used the polite term “capped”) part of it and we the people have received around $1,000. Once a year. Not month. If you’d like to do more research, it’s called the Alaska State Permanent Fund Dividend.

As a minimalist, this is the lion’s share of the money I get each year and what I live off of.

The way it was presented to me was as a defense of Universal Basic Income… and look at Alaska (ie a RED state) and they give their people like $1500 to buy groceries and medicine and stuff. I must be honest, the way they sold it to me I was super impressed. But now I’m totally less impressed.
And now reading about it… even less, less impressed.

Huh. I’d be interested to know who the “expert” was that shared such misinformation with you. Actually, no, I can’t be bothered with that. LOL I figure if someone doesn’t like it they can either 1) not live here or 2) don’t apply for it if you do. Simple.
