Indian Runner ducks
Gone are the days where we could choose vineyards based on purely on geographical aesthetics and the sensory experience of the wine on your palate as you pretend to be an expert sommelier (with a range of ridiculous adjectives to describe what you’re drinking).
Now we pick places that are kid friendly. With shade.
Enter stage left, Vergenoegd Löw and their Indian Runner ducks. To be completely fair I also drank a really nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and had a delicious deli sandwich on farm baked bread, with brie and caramelized red onion. Seriously, I want to go into the bathroom and touch myself just thinking about it.
But really, the stars are the Indian Runner ducks…
Maybe it’s easier if i just copy and paste.
Together with our working flock of more than 1 200 Indian Runner Ducks on the farm, we are one of Africa’s proud pioneers of a very unique, integrated pest management program. This waddling workforce is essential to the farm’s pest-control, consuming a startling amount of snails and bugs on their daily patrols. The ducks are also a big part of why Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate proudly carries WWF biodiversity certification.
Anyway, every day the ducks are moved from one end of the farm to the other by way of a very orderly duck parade to do their thing. Its pretty cool.
