I’ve been on hiatus. He says, somewhat inventively. Although the truth is perhaps closer to a state of mental torpidity. Let’s go with the former, it reverberates with more achievement and less of the slummocking that actually happened.
This morning I woke up early and hiked up the mountain with my German…

… which feels like something noteworthy, and so I’m using it as Deus ex machina to get back into clacking away and inflicting my inanity upon the unsuspecting and not yet weary.

Or maybe I’ll just post some pictures I decide. No sense in just running in and vomiting ill-considered prose all over the place. Ease back into it, like a hot bath when you’re concerned that bold and assertive action might scald your scrotum. (obviously a metaphor that doesn’t necessarily resonate with everyone, but I suppose the other halves pink-bits are equally weary of being cauterized)

Speaking of which. These are Phaenocoma prolifera. Or Pink Everlasting in the parochial parlance. Spring has warp-jumped into summer here but there’s always something flowering in the local biome.

All things considered it was good trudgery, until my trail-runners malfunctioned on the way down. Well, the rubbery grippy-part sheered off (completely) from the gortexy shoe part… so maybe catastrophic failure is more accurate. (these are or perhaps were not cheap shoes)
In any event the last 2km were conducted one shoe on, one shoe off.
[1] ‘Because unlike you, my monomania is now completely untethered as I, with each step, obsess about all the things that could bite and sting me’, I grumble (as you probably tell, the path is well demarcated and Roman-esque in its form and function)
Which is of course when I’d meet the only other person on the mountain. (Climbing up) They were nice enough not to say anything and I didn’t feel the need to elaborate on my shod (or unshod) condition. Or maybe they didn’t even notice, fully ensconced in their own misery (and/or keeping a weary eye on an off-leash German Shepherd2 that had sudden apparated from nowhere, as if by magic)
[2] Its a dud. And broadly useless. But still looks the part. And yes, I am (sometimes) one of those people!
Anyhow. I might be back.
